By Train
flying-scotsmanBurton’s railway station sited to the west of the town centre, and is served by the Cross Country Route, between Derby and Birmingham, and services to Nottingham. Full timetabling, prices and tickets can be obtained from National Rail Enquiries. Access to the station is from the bridge on Borough Road that crosses the railway line. At road level, there is a small car park, a taxi rank/shop and the entrance to the station, which contains the ticket office. In order to reach the two platforms (Platform One is for Derby, Nottingham, London and the North, Platform Two is for Tamworth, Birmingham and the South), passengers descend a broad staircase, (one of the few remaining parts of the old station, which was mostly demolished in the early 1970s).
The station is about one and a half miles from the hall. Turning right away from the station along Borough Road, which quickly merges into Station Street reveals a crossroads after about four hundred yards. Travelling left up Guild Street another four hundred yards then requires a right turn along Horninglow Street (A511), a sojourn round a rather short unnecessary one-way loop necessitates a further left turn into Bridge Street which the becomes Ashby Road (still the A511), crossing the Trent, Ashfield house quickly appears on the right.
